Indian missions worldwide celebrate 79th Independence Day

Diaspora across the globe united to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day, embracing the theme of ‘Naya Bharat’ with patriotic pride.

Indian embassies and high commissions across the globe marked the 79th Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, readings from President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation, and vibrant cultural performances, bringing together the Indian diaspora and friends of India in a shared celebration.

USA

Ambassador Vinay Kwatra hoisted the tricolour at India House. The ceremony was attended by Indians, diaspora members, students, and friends of India. In his address, the Ambassador highlighted President Murmu’s message to the nation. 
 



The celebrations featured an Odissi dance by senior dancers of the Mayor Dance Academy, patriotic songs by students of the Gandharva School of Music, and the felicitation of painting and essay competition winners. An exhibition on the history of the Tricolour was also organised under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

Diaspora communities gather near the High Commission of India in London to celebrate / X/ HCI_London

The High Commission of India in London celebrated with enthusiastic participation from Indians and the diaspora in the United Kingdom. High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami unfurled the National Flag, joined by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale. 



Distinguished guests were felicitated, including Sukhjinder Kaur Lochab, granddaughter of freedom fighter Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha; Ananya Prasad, the first woman of colour to row solo across the Atlantic; and Yogesh Alekari, a long-distance motorcyclist. The event featured cultural performances, including a violin solo, Kathak, and Bharatanatyam, showcasing India’s rich heritage.

The Embassy of India in Moscow held a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Ambassador Vinay Kumar, who unfurled the Tricolour and read President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation. The event saw enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian diaspora and Russian friends, reflecting the spirit of friendship and cultural exchange. 
 



The celebrations featured an engaging cultural programme by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Moscow and the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, along with performances by Russian artists.

CANADA
 

HCI Ottawa solemnly observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day / X/ HCI_Ottawa

The High Commission of India in Ottawa marked the day with active participation from the Indian diaspora in Montreal, who joined the HarGharTiranga campaign, sharing videos celebrating unity and patriotism. 



The Mission also solemnly observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, displaying an exhibition depicting the immense suffering and displacement caused by the 1947 Partition. The commemoration served as a reminder to uphold national unity, integrity, and the enduring spirit of India’s freedom.

GERMANY

At the Embassy of India in Berlin, Ambassador Ajit Gupte hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering, highlighting India’s progress towards Atmanirbhar Bharat through robust economic growth and indigenous advancements in defence, space, technology, and trade.



The celebrations included a prize distribution ceremony honouring the winners of the International Day of Yoga Photo and Video Contest, and concluded with a stirring performance of patriotic songs by the Karthik Mani Ensemble, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the occasion.

The Embassy of India in Beijing commemorated the 79th Independence Day with a solemn ceremony attended by a large gathering of the Indian community. Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat hoisted the Tricolour, marking the occasion with dignity and pride. 



The programme featured a soulful rendition of patriotic songs by community members and a graceful Kathak performance titled “Nritya Bharat”. Ambassador and Mrs. Rawat also felicitated the winners of various competitions organised in the run-up to the celebrations, adding a spirit of recognition and festivity to the event.
