Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first trip to China in seven years signalled both cooperation and caution, according to a new Congressional Research Service (CRS) analysis prepared for US lawmakers.
The Sept.4 report examined Modi’s Aug.31 meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as a “gradual rapprochement” shaped by tensions with Washington. “Modi and Xi affirmed that India and China are ‘partners’ and not ‘rivals,’” the CRS said, noting that Modi deemed it necessary to expand common ground
