Canadian Cricket season starts with women's big hitting event
Women’s Cricket Bonanza – three teams in a 2-day Super 60 event in Mississauga

All cricket enthusiasts from not only the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) but also the whole of Ontario province would be heading for the next two days to Danville Park in Mississauga to watch top Canadian women cricketers rubbing shoulders with their counterparts from the South Asian continent in an event like which has never been staged on Canadian soil before. The occasion is a Super 60 event, featuring four games on Sunday and the final three games on Monday to complete a cricketing feast on the last long weekend of the year.
It is for the first time that an event at this level is being organised at Danville Park in Mississauga, the second major cricketing centre after Brampton in Ontario. Mississauga now also boasts of an international cricket field. BC Place in Vancouver will be the first indoor sporting centre to host the much-awaited Cricket 60 event for men in October. Some of the top names of the game, including Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, will feature prominently in the BC Place event this festival season.
Vancouver may also hold, side by side, an equally attractive big-hitting competition for women.
Brampton, destined to be the cricket capital of Canada, is already working on providing an all-year-round cricket facility.

Five of these 33 players have already represented Canada in international cricket, while most of the others are experienced players having represented top clubs in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and other countries. Focus will be on a mother-daughter duo as the excitement unfolds with the first ball being bowled on Sunday morning at Danville Park. And then there is a star basketball player who has now taken to cricket. More about them after the action starts on Sunday.
Waterloo Warriors will take on Toronto Royals in the opener at 9.30 am, while Mississauga Premiers will take the field for the second game against Waterloo Warriors at 11 am, followed by Toronto Royals vs Mississauga Premiers and Toronto Royals vs Waterloo Warriors in the remaining games on Sunday.
On Monday, Waterloo Warriors will take on Mississauga Premiers in the first game, while Toronto Royals will take on Mississauga Premiers in the final round robin game before the top two teams clash in the final in the afternoon.
