Asian American Alliance Inc. will host the 19th annual Asian Fest at the Indiana Historical Society on May.10, as part of its month-long celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The event aims to highlight the cultural diversity of Indiana’s Asian communities through art, music, food, and family-friendly activities.
“This is one of the most fun and educational events to learn and celebrate Asian culture in Indiana. Come with your friends and family for a day to enjoy arts, music, food and activities. There is something for everyone to do,” said the organizers in a statement.
The festival is one of several events planned by the Asian American Alliance throughout May to honor the contributions of Asian Americans in the state.
The month’s celebrations began with a Seat At The Table session on May.1 at Barnes & Thornburg in downtown Indianapolis. The event featured Telamon Corporation founder Dr. Albert Chen, who shared his entrepreneurial journey during an evening conversation with attendees. “Dr. Chen will sign and distribute his biography,” organizers noted ahead of the event, adding that copies would be gifted to the first 50 guests.
Following the talk, the alliance premiered Shining A Light—Highlights of Achievements and Contributions of Asian Americans over a Century in Indiana, a custom light and sound show projected onto the historic AES Building. The eight-minute display, which reflects on over 100 years of Asian American presence in the state, will continue to run three times nightly throughout May at Monument Circle.
The Asian American Alliance described Shining A Light—a light and sound show projected onto the historic AES Building as the most unique experience in the county to kick off AAPI Month, showcasing the history, accomplishments, and journey of Asian Americans in Indiana over the past century.
