A delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) recently met with officials from Rice Global, which aims to extend the global reach and reputation of Texas-based Rice University, to deepen and broaden the partnership they established in 2019.

The delegation led by director of IITK  Prof. Abhay Karandikar and a group of Rice leadership discussed their current collaboration while also deliberating on ways to extend future efforts, a University statement said.

In 2019, the two institutions developed the Rice-IITK Collaborative Center, which focuses on high-impact collaborative research in the areas of sustainable energy, water, materials, alternative fuels and other areas of common research interest.

More recently in November 2022 the two sides established the Rice-IITK Strategic Collaboration Award program, which supports joint research initiatives in the fields of energy and environment, health care, biomedical sciences, and engineering, among other areas, the University added. The inaugural recipients of the award were announced on August 15.

Commenting on the meeting with the Rice representatives, the IITK director said, “Our collaboration dates back to 2019, marked by the inception of the Rice-IITK Collaborative Center at the IIT Kanpur campus. The center focuses on collaborative research in sustainable energy, water, alternative fuels, and other shared research domains.”
