The United States of America is witnessing a gradual rise in the number of mayors of Indian descent. The list gets longer and more powerful with Zohran Mamdani possibly winning the mayoral race in the biggest city of them all, New York.
The increasing prominence of Indian-American mayors in the United States reflects the growing political influence of the Indian diaspora, which numbers over 4.4 million. These leaders, often first- or second-generation immigrants, are breaking barriers in municipal governance, bringing diverse perspectives to American cities.
