The US Embassy in India has issued a new advisory reminding visa holders that screening and monitoring continue even after a visa is granted. The embassy posted the warning on X, stating that individuals who do not comply with US laws and immigration rules may face visa revocation and deportation.

“US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued,” the embassy said. “We continuously monitor visa holders to ensure they follow all US laws and immigration rules — and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t.”

The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by the US government to tighten immigration controls and enforce compliance among visa holders. It serves as a caution to Indian nationals traveling to the United States that the validity of their visa is conditional on continued adherence to legal and immigration standards.

Last month, the embassy also expanded its vetting procedures. As part of the enhanced background check process, visa applicants are now required to submit all social media usernames and handles they have used in the last five years.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used in the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the embassy said. “Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit.”

Failure to fully disclose this information could have serious consequences.

“Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the embassy added.
