Indian-American Democrat Ro Khanna called on members of the Indian diaspora who supported Donald Trump over Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential election to denounce the president’s tariff action against India.
“I am waiting for all those Indian Americans who voted for Trump over Harris — you know who you are — to speak out against Trump sabotaging the partnership with blanket tariffs that are harsher than those on China. Anyone willing to speak up?” Khanna wrote on X.

I did not vote for Trump but this is only about his ego and wanting Modi to nominate him for the Nobel Peace prize (which Pakistan has). If he ever wins the Nobel, I will stop caring about who wins the Nobel. It will be desecrated, dirtbag medal! https://t.co/vyS1oqvTRW https://t.co/kCBnjZkXJN

His remarks came amid a sharp escalation in trade tensions between Washington and New Delhi. The tariffs, which came into effect last week, combine a “reciprocal” duty with an additional penalty tied to India’s continued import of Russian oil. They cover textiles, jewellery, furniture and seafood, which analysts warn could undercut nearly 70 percent of India’s exports to the U.S.
Entrepreneur Vinod Khosla amplified the criticism, describing Trump’s approach as driven by “ego” and linking it to an attempt to secure a Nobel Peace Prize nomination from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I did not vote for Trump but this is only about his ego and wanting Modi to nominate him for the Nobel Peace prize (which Pakistan has). If he ever wins the Nobel, I will stop caring about who wins the Nobel. It will be desecrated, dirtbag medal!” Khosla posted.
