Sikhs remain third most targeted religious group in US hate crimes: FBI data

According to Sikh Coalition, the FBI report recorded 153 anti-Sikh victimizations in 2024, down from 150 in 2023 and 198 in 2022.

The Coalition flagged that thousands of local law enforcement agencies continue to report zero hate crimes, either due to a lack of incidents or due to systemic issues in reporting and investigation. / The Sikh Coalition

Sikhs remain the third most targeted religious group in the United States, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) 2024 hate crime statistics report released on Aug.5. The Sikh Coalition, a national civil rights organization, said that while there has been a slight decrease in anti-Sikh hate crimes from the previous year, the threat remains disproportionate to the community’s population size.

The FBI report recorded 153 anti-Sikh victimizations in 2024, down from 150 in 2023 and 198 in 2022. Despite this decline, Sikhs were targeted more than most other religious groups, trailing only behind Jewish and Muslim communities.
