Indian composer Ricky Kej released a music video paying tribute to Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s lifelong commitment to child rights and non‑violence.

The video for “Compassion (Karuna)” is part of his newly launched album Gandhi – Mantras of Compassion, which formally debuted on July 14. It chronicles pivotal moments from Satyarthi’s fight against child labour and his eventual Nobel Peace Prize recognition.

The album, conceived in collaboration with Kailash Satyarthi, is a musical homage to the shared ideals of Mahatma Gandhi that have shaped both men’s life work. It reimagines sacred mantras favored by Gandhi into a global soundscape of unity, compassion, and spiritual connection—anchored by the presence of Satyarthi, who provides spoken-word passages across several tracks.

Over 230 artists from more than 40 countries have contributed to the project, making it one of the most ambitious musical tributes to Gandhi’s legacy of ahimsa, karuna, and inner revolution. Among them are Grammy-winning cellist Tina Guo and Japanese composer Masa Takumi, alongside voices and sounds from across cultures.

Ahead of the release, Kej shared the album trailer on social media, calling the project a “labor of love” and timing the preview to coincide with the International Day of Yoga and World Music Day.

This project marks a continuation of Kej’s ongoing dedication to environmental and humanitarian causes. The Grammy-winning composer was recently awarded the Padma Shri in 2025 and holds ambassadorial roles with the UNCCD and UNICEF.
