Navarro: India’s Russian oil trade is “a laundromat for the Kremlin”

Peter Navarro accused India of fueling Russia’s war through discounted oil purchases and refinery exports, linking U.S. tariffs to New Delhi’s policies.

Delivering a blistering critique of India’s role in Russian oil markets, Peter Navarro, an advisor to President Donald Trump on trade, on Aug. 21 accused New Delhi of enabling Moscow’s war machine through discounted crude purchases and refinery exports that he said perpetuate the war in Ukraine and said New Delhi is now cozying up to Xi Jinping.

“Prior to Russia’s invasion in Ukraine in February of 2022, India bought virtually no Russian oil,” Navarro told reporters. “It was like 1% of their needs. As the percentage has gone up to like 30 or 35 percent, the argument somehow now … that they need Russian oil to cool their homes or cook or drive their cars is nonsense.”
