The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran amid a sharp escalation in military conflict between Iran and Israel.

In a post on X on June 14, the student body said many students had reported sirens, tremors, and visible military activity across Iranian cities. “Amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, many Kashmiri students studying in Iran are stranded & reporting sirens, tremors & visible military activity,” JKSA wrote.

They warned the situation could worsen and called on students to share their details through a QR code for inclusion in a support group. “We are compiling a comprehensive list to be submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) immediately for urgent evacuation, if the situation continues to deteriorate,” the post added.

The JKSA also shared helpline numbers for students and families seeking assistance.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also raised concerns on June 13. Posting on X, he appealed directly to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, writing, “Requesting @MEAIndia to urgently ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students currently stuck in Iran. Their families are deeply worried, and we stand with them in this difficult time.”

“Every step must be taken to safeguard our students,” Abdullah added.

The appeals come in the wake of a sharp escalation in hostilities. On June 13, Israeli forces carried out a surprise attack targeting over 200 Iranian military and nuclear sites, reportedly killing senior commanders, scientists, and top officials.

In response, Iran launched a large-scale missile retaliation later on June 13 and into the early hours of June 14. Israeli authorities said about 200 ballistic missiles were fired in four waves. Air raid sirens were heard across Israel, and at least four people were reported dead.
