Kajal Dochak, 17 year old wrestler from Haryana, India, won the women’s 72kg gold medal at the World Under-20 Wrestling Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria on Aug. 22
Defeating China’s Yuqi Liu 8-6 in the final, she became India’s second under-20 world champion this week.

In the final, Dochak built an early 4-0 lead and withstood a late challenge from her Chinese opponent to secure the win. Her path to the title included victories over Bulgaria’s Emili Mihaylova and Kyrgyzstan’s Kaiyrkul Sharshebaeva, followed by a 13-6 semi-final win against defending champion Jasmine Robinson of the United States.
Dochak , from Lath village in Sonipat district, has competed successfully across multiple weight divisions in recent years. A former world under-17 champion in the 69kg category, she also won silver in the 73kg class last month and claimed the Asian under-20 title in 76kg earlier in July. Switching between the 72kg and 76kg divisions, she has earned two gold and two silver medals at continental and world events in the past two months.
India’s women wrestlers delivered a strong overall performance in Bulgaria. Shruti won bronze in the 50kg category, and Saarika earned bronze in the 53kg division. The Indian women’s team finished second overall with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, behind Japan, which led the standings with five golds and two bronzes.
