The Indian Overseas Congress, USA (IOCUSA), the official overseas wing of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the United States, has congratulated the newly elected members of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), a state unit of the Indian National Congress in Kerala.
This includes Sunny Joseph on his appointment as the new president, along with working presidents Shafi Parambil, P.C. Vishnunath, and A.P. Anil Kumar."
George Abraham, vice-chairman of IOCUSA, praised the appointments as a step toward party revival. “We hope that Sunny Joseph will bring a new urgency within the party cadre and unity in the party hierarchy while providing a strong but thoughtful leadership as the State will be facing the elections early next year," Abraham said in a statement.
The leadership changes are seen as both a generational shift and an effort to balance caste and communal representation, with Adoor Prakash named as United Democratic Front (UDF) convener. The changes also reflect a strategic response to concerns over waning support from the Christian community.
Calling the current Pinarayi Vijayan-led government “corrupt and disastrous,” Abraham stressed that success for Joseph will require cooperation from senior Congress leaders aiming for the chief minister post.
“However, if he is to succeed in ending the Pinarayi rule, which has been known as the most corrupt and disastrous regime in Kerala's history, he needs a lot of help from the senior party leaders who are jockeying for the position to become the next CM," Abraham added.
Describing Joseph as calm and balanced yet vocal for the high-range population, Abraham noted that the IOCUSA had welcomed him during a prior U.S. visit and looks forward to a closer working relationship.
