Indian-origin professor named exemplary researcher at SUNY-ESF

The Exemplary Researcher Award recognizes faculty with an outstanding record of publications, impactful research, and strong student mentorship.

Dr. Deepak Kumar, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), has been named the college’s Exemplary Researcher for the 2025-26 academic year.

Originally from India, Kumar earned his B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering from Punjab Agricultural University in 2006, followed by an M.S. in the same field from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 2009. Since joining ESF in 2019, he has led pioneering work in sustainable technologies and mentored a generation of student researchers.
