The Padukone School of Badminton (PSB) established by actress and former national badminton player Deepika Padukone has expanded to include over 75 coaching centres across 18 Indian cities within just one year of its launch.
The actress's announcement on social media coincided with her father, badminton legend Prakash Padukone's, 70th birthday on June 10.
The school aims to make quality badminton coaching accessible and inclusive under the banner of “Badminton for All.” Its presence now spans major cities including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Pune, Mysuru, and Surat, among others.
“As someone who grew up playing badminton, I’ve experienced firsthand how much this sport can shape one’s life – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through PSB, I hope we can bring the joy and discipline of badminton to people from all walks of life, and build a generation that is healthier, more focused, and inspired by sport,” said Deepika Padukone.
Prakash Padukone emphasized the long-term vision of the project, “With PSB, our goal is to make quality coaching accessible and affordable, nurture talent from the grassroots, and set a strong foundation for the future of Indian badminton.”
PSB’s approach includes standardized coaching methods curated under Prakash Padukone’s mentorship, targeting schoolchildren, professionals, and beginners alike. It also runs a coach certification program to train over 100 coaches, aiming to create sustainable careers in the sport.
Through strategic partnerships with schools, institutions, and existing sports venues, PSB is feeding talent into its three High-Performance Centres of Excellence in Bengaluru. These centres serve as the training ground for identifying and nurturing future badminton champions.
Looking ahead, the school intends to increase its number of centers to 100 by the end of 2025, and to 250 by 2027.
