Anupam Kher’s ‘Tanvi the Great’ screened in Texas

The movie is set to release on July 18, 2025.

Anupam Kher’s directorial venture, Tanvi the Great, was screened in Austin, Texas on June 21.

Following a grand premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the movie has received wide acclaim.

The event, hosted by Hindu Charities For America (HC4A), sought to raise funds and create awareness to support educational access for underprivileged students in the United States, through the screening.

‘Tanvi The Great’ is an upcoming Hindi-language drama film directed by Anupam Kher. Set to release on July 18, 2025, the film follows the inspiring journey of Tanvi Raina, a young woman with autism, portrayed by debutant Shubhangi Dutt, who is determined to fulfill her late Indian Army officer father’s dream of saluting the Indian flag at Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.

The event also included a personal meet-and-greet with Anupam Kher and a moving live Q&A with director Anupam Kher and lead actress Shubhangi Dutt.

The attendees also got an opportunity to directly engage with the filmmaker during the exclusive fundraising dinner.

Kher, in his opening remarks, shared a heartfelt message with the audience. He said, “Don’t just watch this movie — listen to it.”

He added, “It portrays the power of truth.”

He spoke passionately about his personal experience with his niece that led to the movie’s powerful theme of being different but not less, adding, “The opposite of normal is not abnormal — it is extraordinary.”

Kher’s words reinforced the film’s celebration of uniqueness, courage, and the unbreakable spirit of a young girl with autism who dares to be different.

The screening received a standing ovation from the audience. Investor and philanthropist Ashish Gupta said, “With an inspiring performance by Shubhangi Dutt, Anupam Kher accomplished a rare feat, delivering a dual message about service to country and the beauty of being different. We are all different, but no less.”
 
“Tanvi The Great is a spellbinding story that reveals the complexity of family duty and reminds us every young person has a gift — if only we let them. You’ll laugh, cry, hold your breath, and leave inspired,” shared Arati Singh, At-Large Trustee and Former Board President, Austin ISD.

Philanthropist Jaya Thakkar added, “Huge compliments to HC4A and Alok Singh for an unforgettable evening. We often admire stars for their success, but this reminded us of the untold struggles behind it.”

Alok Singh, President of the HC4A Board shared his experience watching the movie and said, “Tanvi The Great is an inspiring film that celebrates being different and the unbreakable spirit of a young girl with autism. Hosting this event with the legendary Anupam Kher was a rare privilege and a proud milestone for our organization and city.”
