Indian American Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy raised $9.7 million since launching his campaign for Ohio governor in late February, his campaign announced on July 1.

The amount, amassed in just four months, marks the largest first-quarter fundraising total for any gubernatorial candidate in Ohio history. His campaign emphasized that the $9.7 million figure does not include any personal contributions from Ramaswamy himself.

“Raising this historic amount in just four months sends a powerful message: Ohioans are eager for bold, transformative leadership that will propel our state to new heights,” said Jonathan Ewing, campaign manager for Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio.

“The remarkable surge of support in the final week of the quarter exceeded all expectations, proving that Vivek is uniting people across the state and is ready to usher in a new era of prosperity and opportunity for every Ohioan,” he added.

Ramaswamy’s campaign attributed the extraordinary fundraising figure to a surge in contributions in the final week of June, underscoring what it called “unprecedented enthusiasm” for his candidacy.

The biotech entrepreneur and former 2024 Republican presidential candidate entered the Ohio race on Feb. 24, shortly after stepping down as head of the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a post he was tapped for by President Donald Trump.

His campaign says it has hosted over 50 fundraising events since launch—ranging from intimate meet-and-greets to large-scale rallies—and attracted more than 40,000 individual donors. In a post on social media, Ramaswamy noted that 80 percent of those donors contributed three-figure amounts or less, signaling a strong grassroots base.

In addition to his own fundraising, Ramaswamy has also helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Republican efforts by headlining 36 GOP events across Ohio over the past four months. The funds, his campaign said, are being used to strengthen party infrastructure and support down-ballot Republican candidates.

With the 2026 primary still nearly a year away, Ramaswamy has already locked in endorsements from key GOP figures including President Trump, U.S. Senator JD Vance, Donald Trump Jr., and the majority of Republican lawmakers in the Ohio Senate and House.

The Ohio Republican Party’s State Central Committee and every Republican member of Ohio’s congressional delegation have also backed his bid, creating what the campaign calls “an unprecedented coalition of conservative support.”

Ramaswamy is running to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Mike DeWine. On the Democratic side, former Ohio Health Director Amy Acton has declared her candidacy. Republican Attorney General Dave Yost dropped out of the race in May after the state GOP endorsed Ramaswamy.

Details of the campaign’s 2025 semiannual finance report—covering fundraising activity from Jan. 1 to June. 30—will be filed with the Ohio Secretary of State by July 31.
