University of Maryland appoints Gagan D. Singh to trustees board

He will begin his three-year term on July 1, joining four other newly named trustees.

The University of Maryland (UMD) has appointed Indian-American investment executive Gagan D. Singh, to theUniversity of Maryland College Park Foundation (UMCPF) Board of Trustees. 

Currently executive vice president and chief investment officer at PNC Financial Services Group, Singhearned his master’s degree from UMD in 1997 and  brings a wealth of experience in finance and investment.  In his new position, he will oversee the investment and distribution of private funds, model and promote philanthropic support for the university, and provide assistance and support to foundation and university leadership.

He joined PNC in 2004 and has served in his current executive role since 2018. Previously, he was managing director of derivatives strategy for North America at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

A committed supporter of the university, Singh established both the Gul Bhutani endowed fellowship and the Gul Bhutani current-use fellowship in business at UMD’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, named in honor of his mother. He also contributes to the alumni association general scholarship and the annual fund, and has served on the Smith School’s advisory board for 10 years.

Beyond UMD, Singh serves on the U.S. Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee and supports several educational and nonprofit organizations, including Pratham USA, the Indian Institute of Technology, the Akanksha Fund, and the Elisabeth Morrow School.

The University of Maryland College Park Foundation, established in 2000, manages private support to advance UMD’s mission as a top public research university.
