UCLA honors Aparna Sridhar with Kaiser-Permanente Award

She was honored for her excellence in teaching, educational leadership, and lasting contributions to medical student learning.

The David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has honored Indian-American clinician Aparna Sridhar with the Kaiser-Permanente Award for Excellence in Teaching. 

This peer-nominated award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated commitment to teaching, innovation in medical education, and leadership in interdisciplinary learning.

Sridhar, a professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology, has played a central role in advancing medical education across UCLA Health and its affiliated hospitals. Her teaching is marked by a thoughtful balance of clinical expertise and student-centered instruction. Known for her clear communication and supportive approach, she has consistently earned respect and appreciation from students and colleagues alike, the university said. 

Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Sridhar has led efforts to enhance curriculum design and promote collaborative, cross-departmental educational programs. Her work has contributed to a more integrated and responsive medical learning environment, in line with UCLA’s broader goals for academic excellence.

Sridhar earned her medical degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, and completed her residency at Rutgers University. She holds a Master of Public Health from UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. 

The Kaiser-Permanente Award is one of the highest honors for teaching at the university. Administered by the dean’s office and supported by Kaiser Permanente, it highlights educators whose efforts have had a lasting impact on the medical education community.
