President Donald Trump announced on Aug. 23 that he has nominated Sergio Gor to serve as the next United States Ambassador to India and as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
“I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs,” Trump said in a statement on Truth Social.
Gor, who currently serves as Director of Presidential Personnel, has played a central role in staffing the federal government under the Trump administration. According to the President, Gor and his team have hired nearly 4,000 officials across federal departments, filling more than 95% of key positions. “Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled! Sergio will remain in his current role at the White House until his confirmation,” Trump said.

Trump described Gor as a longtime ally and a trusted aide. “Sergio is a great friend, who has been at my side for many years. He worked on my Historic Presidential Campaigns, published my Best Selling Books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs, which supported our Movement,” he said.
The President underscored the strategic significance of India, the world’s most populous democracy, in U.S. foreign policy. “For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations Sergio!”
Gor’s nomination now moves to the Senate for confirmation hearings. If confirmed, he will assume his diplomatic post in New Delhi, taking on the responsibility of strengthening U.S.-India ties and representing American interests in South and Central Asia.
Sergio Gor has extensive experience in political strategy and public service. Beyond his current role in presidential personnel, he has been actively involved in political campaigns, the operation of Super PACs, and the publication of books documenting Trump’s presidential campaigns. His nomination reflects a continued effort by the Trump administration to place trusted aides in key diplomatic positions in critical regions.
India, home to more than 1.4 billion people, is a central partner for the United States in trade, security, and regional stability. The appointment of a seasoned and trusted diplomat like Gor signals Washington’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with New Delhi, especially at a time of heightened geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific.
