Three Indian-origin students from Arizona’s BASIS Charter Schools have been selected for the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Tucson’s Accelerated Pathway to Medical Education (APME) program, a competitive early-admission track that bypasses the MCAT. The announcement was made on Aug.5.

The APME program admits only ten high school seniors each year nationwide. This year, four spots went to students from BASIS campuses: Nishita Karikatti from BASIS Oro Valley, Sudeep Vattikuti from BASIS Peoria, Karthik Ainapurapu from BASIS Tucson North, and one student from BASIS Phoenix. The program allows students to complete undergraduate and medical degrees in seven years, provided they meet academic and professional benchmarks along the way.
