SALA Festival to celebrate South Asian literature and art in California

The event will feature Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, author Alka Joshi and filmmakers Kiran Rao and Kabir Khan.

South Asian Literature & Art (SALA) Festival will be organized in Atherton, California, on Sept. 13 and 14.  

Organized by Art Forum SF, SALA showcases contemporary reflections of literature and arts from the sub-continent and its diaspora.  

Having promoted over 250 contemporary South Asian artists of all genre, SALA is a path-breaking, multi-disciplinary event, and as such one of its kind in the US.

The curated event will represent South-Asian culture to the broad Bay Area audience. It will feature highly acclaimed contemporary South Asian speakers, with over 24 panel discussions on various topics broadly literature, art, epicurean and diaspora social issues.

Featuring names like Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, author Alka Joshi and filmmakers Kiran Rao and Kabir Khan, this year's celebration will be centered around the theme 'Thoughts Without Borders'.

In a statement, the organizers said, "We are looking at how we need to come together, especially in the times we live in by examining the borders we create like caste, class, gender biases and the borders of nation state."
