The New Jersey Business Immigration Coalition has honored Indian-American entrepreneur Suresh U Kumar with the 2025 Dieter Weissenrieder Lifetime Achievement Award.

Kumar was conferred the award during a ceremony held at Pines Manor, Edison. The award recognizes the lifetime contributions of an immigrant who has demonstrated excellence in business, entrepreneurship, and community service.

In his acceptance speech, Kumar emphasized the significance of immigrant identity, stating, “The two words that make the 2025 Dieter Weissenrieder Lifetime Achievement Award special for me are ‘Immigrant Entrepreneur’ because these words best define me—next only to the most important affiliation that I share with many of you—that of an American Citizen.”

“Today, when immigrants are unfairly targeted, vilified, and maligned by people in positions of power, I proudly embrace my identity as an American Immigrant Entrepreneur,” he added.

Born in Kochi, India, Kumar began his journey in public life as a student political leader before immigrating to the United States in 1991. Over the past three decades, he has established himself as a serial entrepreneur, educator, start-up mentor, and nonprofit leader.

He co-founded his first venture in 1999 and currently serves as director of innovation and entrepreneurship at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is also the founder of AI startup The New Frontier Firm.

In addition to his entrepreneurial and academic accomplishments, Kumar serves as president of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) New Jersey chapter—a global non‑profit fostering entrepreneurship through mentorship, networking, education, and support for startups and business founders. Founded in 2007, TiE New Jersey is one of the Category “A” chapters of the global TiE network.

Kumar is also a published author. His debut novel, The Girl in Scarlet Hijab, has been shortlisted for the 2025 Delhi Literature Festival Jury Award for Fiction.
