This will mark the sport’s first Olympic appearance since Paris 1900, when a single match between Great Britain and France was held.Cricket will be reintroduced in the T20 format featuring  six teams each in both men’s and women’s categories.

Each team will consist of 15 players, with a total of 90 athlete quotas per gender. All matches will be held at a temporary venue in Fairplex, Pomona, located roughly 50 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles. This purpose-built facility is part of a 500-acre complex long associated with the LA County Fair and various large-scale events.

Cricket’s inclusion at LA 2028 is part of a broader expansion, which also brings in squash, flag football, baseball/softball, and lacrosse (sixes). The International Olympic Committee approved the addition of these sports in 2023.

India, a leading cricketing nation, is expected to show strong interest in both the men's and women's cricket tournaments, with medal hopes in cricket and squash.
