Indian-origin politician Chandra Arya has announced the formation of the Hindu Public Affairs Council of Canada (Canada HPAC), a national organization aimed at advocating for Hindu Canadians and confronting rising extremism.

Announcing the launch on social media, the former Member of Parliament described Canada HPAC as “Unapologetically Hindu. Resolutely Canadian.” The council’s mission includes countering what it identifies as a surge in anti-Hindu and Khalistani extremism, which it claims has left Hindu Canadians “under siege.”

“In an era when anti-Hindu and Khalistani forces are emboldened and our community is under siege, Canada HPAC rises with resolve,” Arya stated. The launch comes amid growing concerns over incidents of vandalism targeting Hindu temples and reports of harassment directed at community leaders across the country.

According to Canada HPAC, such actions are being carried out by organized extremist networks operating with “near impunity,” a climate the group says has been worsened by political silence and appeasement.

Canada HPAC says it is rooted in the principles of Sanatana Dharma—truth, peace, duty, and harmony—and intends to serve as a lasting voice for Hindu Canadians. The organization also emphasizes strengthening ties with India, which it refers to as the spiritual homeland of Hinduism.

Arya, who represented Nepean as a Liberal MP from 2015 to 2025, has been a consistent critic of Khalistani extremism. His outspoken stance reportedly led to tensions within the Liberal Party, culminating in the revocation of his 2025 nomination. While party sources cited alleged undisclosed ties to the Indian government, Arya denied the claims and attributed the move to his advocacy for the Hindu community.
