Bay Area celebrates Ganesh Festival with fervour

Witnessing participation from over 20,000 devotees, the celebration featured a vibrant sea of devotion, culture, music, food, and community spirit.

Bay Area witnessed the largest Ganesh Festival in the region on Aug. 30, as Namaste Bay Area and Bolly 92.3FM joined hands for a day of festivities.

Witnessing participation from over 20,000 devotees, the celebration at the Bishop Ranch City Center featured a vibrant sea of devotion, culture, music, food, and community spirit.

A key attraction of the event was the grand procession with over 100 dhol-tasha drummers, devotional dances, and community-led aartis.

“This was more than just a festival—it was a powerful movement of unity and culture,” said one of the lead organizers.

They added, “The overwhelming turnout for this inaugural event shows how deeply our heritage resonates here and reaffirms our commitment to preserving and celebrating these traditions for future generations.”

Multiple elected officials, dignitaries, and community leaders from across the Bay Area attended the celebration. The list of attendees included Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert, San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong, Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu, Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, Vice Mayor of San Ramon Sridhar Verose, Planning Commissioner of Milpitas Dipak Awasty, SRVUSD Board Member Susanna Ordway, San Ramon Councilmember Richard Adler, and Kathy Zhu from the Silicon Valley Asian Association, among others.

Special attention was given to ensure an eco-friendly celebration, clay idols and eco-conscious décor featured in the festivities.

With over 200 artists adorning the stage, classical dances, devotional music, drama, and cultural showcases were also a part of the grand celebration.

The hourly 'aartis and bhajans' brought the community together in devotion as the celebrations went ahead with a grand procession and visarjan

The day also witnessed over 100 vendors setting shop with authentic Indian food, jewelry, clothing, arts, and community services.
