Aruna Miller leads Maryland delegation to Florida for AI exchange

Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna K. Miller led a high-level state delegation to the University of Florida’s HiPerGator AI computing facility on Aug. 14.

The visit, focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, workforce development, and economic growth, was part of a collaborative exchange aimed at studying Florida’s experience in integrating AI into public institutions and identifying best practices for developing a responsible and ethical AI strategy.

The delegation included cabinet members, state officials, and leaders from Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. 

At HiPerGator, the delegation examined how robust computing facilities and coordinated state-level planning can expand the reach and impact of AI initiatives. 

“The Moore-Miller Administration is committed to making Maryland a national leader in AI innovation,” Miller said. “We are bringing together our brightest minds and boldest ideas to build an AI future that is inclusive, ethical, and beneficial to all Marylanders.”

Maryland Higher Education Secretary Sanjay Rai stressed the importance of infrastructure and collaboration. “The remarkable advancements in AI taking place in Maryland highlight the critical need for a statewide approach and robust computing facilities,” he said.

“These resources are essential to fully realize the potential of current investments and propel Maryland to the forefront of AI innovation.”
