6 Indian-origin women on Shift 90 plus one list

They were honored for redefining leadership, creativity, and culture, forging global change across several fields.

The Shift’s “90 Plus One” list features 6 women of Indian-origin among  a distinguished cohort of individuals recognized for their transformative impact across a diverse array of professional fields.

Rupi Kaur, Leena Nair, Seema Hingorani, Geetha Murali, Trisha Ayyagari, and Shilpa Yarlagadda were recognized for redefining leadership, creativity, and culture.

Poet and artist Rupi Kaur, whose bestselling work ‘Milk and Honey’ revolutionized modern poetry, gives a powerful voice to themes of femininity and healing. Since its release in 2014, her collection Milk and Honey has sold over 11 million copies and was translated into 43 languages, spending 77 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller List. 

From the corporate world, Leena Nair, the global CEO of Chanel, was honored for her historic appointment as the first female and first Asian chief of the iconic luxury house. Nair was previously Unilever's chief human resource officer and a Unilever leadership executive member. 

Seema Hingorani, a managing director at Morgan Stanley investment management and the founder of Girls Who Invest, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young women to pursue careers in asset management, was named for her impact in the finance sector.

In philanthropy and leadership, Geetha Murali, CEO of the global literacy non-profit Room to Read, was recognized for her work in advancing educational opportunities for millions of children worldwide. She helped the organization’s exponential growth, expanding its presence to 28 countries and positively benefiting more than 50 million children to date. 

Ayyagari, the global brand president of Maybelline New York at L'Oréal, was recognized for championing inclusive beauty and mental health advocacy through initiatives such as ‘Brave Together’.  With over 18 years at the company, she has ascended through key marketing leadership positions. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School. 

Shilpa  Yarlagadda, the founder and CEO of the direct-to-consumer jewelry brand Shiffon, is celebrated for her entrepreneurial spirit and her company’s commitment to supporting women-led startups through its Startup Jewelry initiative. A Harvard graduate, she was recognized by the Forbes 30 under 30 list. 

“The Shift was created as a platform where impact and culture meet, where stories are told across generations, and where progress is seen, celebrated, and shared,” a statement said.
