A bipartisan group of 17 influential US lawmakers, including four Indian Americans, has urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to reinstate and expand the previous administration's domestic visa renewal program, under which some categories of H-1B visa holders can renew their visas without travelling overseas.

“By reinstating and expanding domestic visa renewals, this backlog can be alleviated, increasing efficiency and providing greater certainty for U.S. employers, workers, and students. Additionally, such a move aligns with broader efforts to modernize the immigration system and reduce unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles that hinder innovation and economic competitiveness,” the 17 American lawmakers wrote in a letter to Rubio on May 7.
