Anima Anandkumar to demystify AI at Caltech event

Anima Anandkumar joins "Sci-Fi to Sci-Fact" Panel at Caltech Event, Bridging the Gap Between Science Fiction and Real-World AI Advances on September 23.

Dr. Anima Anandkumar, the Bren Professor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, has been named as one of the panelists for Caltech's upcoming event, "Sci-Fi to Sci-Fact: Artificial Intelligence on the Big Screen."

The event, scheduled for September 23 at Caltech's Beckman Auditorium, will present a captivating exploration of the intersection between science fiction and real-world artificial intelligence (AI) advances.

The "Sci-Fi to Sci-Fact" event will delve into the captivating world of AI as portrayed in popular culture. They will be using iconic sci-fi films as a backdrop. The panelists will discuss how the state of AI technology and where it is heading; whether we can trust AI; and how to protect against misinformation, bias, and other challenges, a Caltech release stated.

Anandkumar, in addition to her role as a Bren Professor at Caltech, serves as the senior director of AI Research at NVIDIA. Her contributions to the field of AI have earned her a place in the World Economic Forum's Expert Network.

Anandkumar has received numerous prestigious awards over the years, including the IEEE Fellowship, the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, the NSF Career Award, and faculty fellowships from technology giants such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Adobe.

Her academic journey commenced at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where she completed her B.Tech degree, followed by a Ph.D. from Cornell University. Anandkumar further honed her expertise through postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an assistant professorship at the University of California, Irvine.
