India has contributed an additional $1 million to the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Facility for Poverty and Hunger Alleviation Fund, reaffirming its commitment to global development and cooperation.

The contribution was officially handed over by Ambassador Yojna Patel, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, to Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), at a ceremony in New York.

India, along with Brazil and South Africa, annually contributes $1 million to the IBSA Fund, which supports transformational projects in developing nations through a demand-driven approach. Since its inception in 2006, India’s total contribution has exceeded $19 million. The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation serves as the fund’s manager and secretariat.

The IBSA Fund finances projects aimed at addressing key development challenges, including food security, poverty alleviation, access to safe drinking water, HIV/AIDS prevention, and women and youth empowerment. These initiatives align with the broader goals of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To date, the IBSA Fund has allocated $54.3 million to 49 projects across 38 countries in the Global South, reflecting India’s continued commitment to international development and solidarity with emerging economies.
