Hitachi chairman Toshiaki Higashihara was presented with the 2025 Global Leadership Award at The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) eighth edition of its annual Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C on June.2.

Higashihara was recognized for his leadership in strengthening economic ties and promoting innovation through international collaboration, including work involving India, Japan, and the United States.

“It's a great honor to receive this remarkable award from the U.S. ISTF, along with such a distinguished leader, Mr. Krishna, and Mr. Birla, for really having to receive this award,” Higashihara said during his acceptance speech.

He emphasized Hitachi’s commitment to social innovation and the power of collaboration. “At Hitachi, we believe in the power of the collaboration to drive innovation and inclusive growth,” he said. “This all reflects that strong and enduring partnership that's built in the United States and India.”

He concluded his remarks by acknowledging U.S.-India ties and the company’s ongoing mission. “Finally, I'd like to thank you here in the United States and work for Tyler's Airport to promote social innovation and to create a better society anywhere,” he said.

USISPF president and CEO Mukesh Aghi addressed the audience prior to the award presentation. He acknowledged questions about why a Japanese business leader was being honored at a U.S.-India-focused event.

Aghi said, “You have to understand, when you look at the Quad, the geographical alignment between the four countries, and when you look at India and Japan, and also U.S., the triangle is driving a lot of energy in all three countries itself.”

He highlighted Hitachi’s infrastructure investments in India as a key reason for Higashihara’s selection. “When you look at what Japan is doing, especially Hitachi — building a bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, or setting up railway yards, a focus on industrial automation, a focus on mobility,” Aghi said.
