An Indian-origin woman went viral after sharing three everyday comforts she came to value more in the United States following 15 years of living in India.
In a social media post that quickly gained traction, Tanu Priya highlighted instant hot water, strong shower pressure, and the presence of a dishwasher as “small luxuries” that now stand out in her life.

She contrasted this to India, where she typically had to switch on a geyser 15 to 30 minutes before a bath and resort to bucket baths with a mug due to weak shower pressure—sometimes using two full buckets of water to wash her hair.
In India, although her household employed domestic help, she said dishwashing duties during holidays usually fell on family members. “It was just different, not the lifestyle I grew up in,” she said.
The video has prompted a lively online debate. Some social media users criticised Priya’s perspective, labeling it “entitled” and suggesting that conveniences such as app-controlled geysers, pressure pumps, and modern dishwashers are increasingly common in Indian homes.
Others defended her remarks, arguing that such facilities remain limited to certain cities and income groups, making her experiences valid for a wider section of the population.
Environmental arguments also surfaced. One user said that using a geyser only when needed conserves energy across millions of households, calling bucket baths “both sustainable and practical.”
Another commenter added, “Not everyone in India sees hot water as a necessity—it’s a luxury in many regions.”
Some defended Priya against criticism, noting that her comments reflected personal experience rather than a universal statement.
