The University of Georgia Foundation has elected Indian-American primary care physician Deep J. Shah as a new member of its board of trustees.
Currently chief operating officer at Gwinnett Clinic in metro Atlanta, Shah is recognized for his leadership in clinical operations, healthcare finance, and patient advocacy. In 2020, he was named an Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Fellow in Leadership and elected to the AOA honor society.

Shah, a native of Atlanta and the son of Indian immigrants from Gujarat, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia in 2008 with dual degrees in biology and international affairs. As a student, he earned both Truman and Rhodes Scholarships, later completing a master’s in comparative social policy at Oxford University with a focus on healthcare systems. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 2013, where he was selected by his peers to serve as Class Day Speaker.
His influence extends beyond clinical settings. Appointed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in 2021, Shah serves on the Augusta University Health System board and was named a director of Touchmark National Bank in 2022. His past policy experience includes fellowships in the U.S. Senate and Georgia Governor’s Office.
Shah lives in metro Atlanta with his family and remains actively engaged in mentoring medical students through his role as adjunct clinical faculty at Emory University.
