Mayor Adams praised his impact on New York’s AAPI community, highlighting his pioneering achievement as the first ENT surgeon in India to complete neurosurgical training. Bhayani currently heads ENT and facial plastic departments at several hospitals in New York.
In his remarks, Mayor Adams described him as “an authentic force for good and a pillar of the Asian American community.”

Beyond his clinical accomplishments, he has been a longtime advocate for humanitarian causes in both the U.S. and India.
In addition, Bhayani has served on the boards of more than 20 organizations, including Save Life Foundation and Hindu Center New York, contributing to key efforts such as the Good Samaritan Law and the Road Safety Bill in India. He also played a leading role in organizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 address at Madison Square Garden, a landmark moment in India–U.S. diaspora engagement.
A prominent figure in the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), Bhayani has served as president of the New York chapter, national treasurer, and convention chair of the 2017 annual convention. His accolades include the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman at the UK House of Lords, the Congressional Achievement Award in the U.S., and multiple honors recognizing his service to the Indian diaspora.
In conclusion, Mayor Adams thanked Bhayani for his “unparalleled selflessness and ambition,” noting his work reflects the values and diversity that define New York City.
