An Indo-Canadian blogger has gone viral after publicly sharing what she called “weird” and offensive comments directed at her by “white” Canadians.
The post, which has sparked debate on social media, sheds light on the growing conversation around casual racism and stereotyping faced by immigrants, particularly Indians, in North America.

Shikha, a software engineer and lifestyle blogger based in Canada, listed several slurs she said were left as online comments on her social media posts.
“Glad they leave these comments only on social media. Face to face they are so sweet,” she wrote, before citing remarks such as “Get a deodorant first,” “Go back, we don’t need you,” “Go to Tim Hortons, you will feel like home,” “You find a food bank to eat,” “You guys stink,” “Pajeets,” “Go back to your own country,” “Why move where everybody hates you,” and “Deport these freeloading creatures.” She also mentioned receiving animated gifs showing cockroach-crushing visuals and messages like “Go the f*** back home.”
Despite the hate, Shikha said she remained unaffected. “Should I share more? I mean, why? Also, I am dancing and happy and doing what I want on my social media—these mean faceless comments can’t dishearten me,” she wrote.
The post prompted a range of reactions online. Some users supported her, highlighting the persistence of online hate. “It’s good to know that these comments don’t dishearten you. You go girl, you are doing great, this country doesn’t even belong to them. So, chill and enjoy,” one user commented.
Others disagreed with her portrayal of Canadian society. “I really contradict. Real life experience has been really sweet 99 percent of the time. I live in BC, Langley and people are really well behaved and cultured. Why bother about 1 percent? Your post sounds like an intention to get more attention and views,” a user wrote.
Another added, “Have been living in Canada for the last 14 years. Never in my life heard of anything like this. Please stop spreading hatred/negativity about Canada.”
Shikha’s post comes at a time when online and real-world racism against South Asians in Canada is under scrutiny. A UK-based think tank, the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, reported a 1,350 percent surge in anti-South Asian slurs on social media between 2019 and 2023, alongside a 227 percent rise in police-reported hate crimes during the same period.
Platforms such as X and TikTok have seen thousands of posts using derogatory terms like “pajeet” and invoking conspiracy narratives such as the “Great Replacement Theory.”
In October 2024, Ashwin Annamalai, a Canadian citizen of Indian origin, recorded a woman in Waterloo, Ontario, telling him “you’re not Canadian” and demanding he “go back to India,” despite his citizenship. The incident occurred in a region that had the highest rate of hate crimes in Canada that year.
