Indian American executive Ike Anand has been appointed president and chief executive officer of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Anand, who had served as interim CEO since March and chief operating officer since 2020, becomes seventh CEO in ALSAC’s 68-year history. His appointment is effective immediately.

The announcement was made by the ALSAC board of directors following a global search that began in December after longtime CEO Richard C. Shadyac Jr. stepped down. Anand takes on the leadership role midway through a six-year $12.9 billion strategic plan launched in 2022, the largest initiative in the organization’s history aimed at expanding treatments and cures globally.

“We are delighted Ike has officially accepted the role of CEO,” said Dr. Frederick M. Azar, chair of the ALSAC Board. “Throughout his tenure, Ike has demonstrated visionary leadership and an unwavering commitment to the St. Jude mission. His passion and dedication have been instrumental in redefining our strategic direction.”

Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude and daughter of founder Danny Thomas, praised Anand’s appointment. “When my father founded St. Jude with a dream that no child should die in the dawn of life, he meant no child anywhere,” Thomas said. “Ike Anand is the perfect person to carry that dream forward and help continue to expand our mission globally.”

Dr. James R. Downing, president and CEO of St. Jude, said Anand’s leadership over recent months has “made a profound impact” on the hospital’s mission. “His strategic vision and collaborative spirit have strengthened the relationship between ALSAC and St. Jude. I couldn’t ask for a better partner.”

Judy Habib, chair of the St. Jude Board of Governors, called Anand’s appointment “an important new chapter” in the hospital’s mission. She said his “innovative mindset and deep commitment” would support the hospital’s global expansion and scientific advances in pediatric cancer research.

Anand previously worked at Expedia Group as global vice president of strategy, where he led critical cross-functional initiatives during his 15-year tenure. At ALSAC, he played a key role in its digital transformation and strategic planning, driving revenue growth while ensuring donor resources were efficiently used.

“I am deeply honored to be chosen to lead such a remarkable organization,” Anand said. “The mission of St. Jude holds a special place in my heart.”
