FIA-NE marks U.S. Independence Day in Massachusetts

The Foundation of Indian-Americans (FIA) New England, in partnership with The Boston Group, celebrated the 249th U.S. Independence Day on June 29, in Northborough, Massachusetts.

The grand event brought together Indian-American and local communities in a vibrant tribute to freedom, service, and multicultural unity.

The celebration opened with Jyoti Singh of FIA-NE welcoming attendees, while U.S. military veteran and 9/11 survivor Maggie Lemay emceed the proceedings. FIA vice president Sanjay Gokhale led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a heartfelt national anthem performance by children from Padamini Dance Academy and a local band.

A major highlight was the honoring of U.S. veterans and local police. Among the honorees were Army veteran Elizabeth Barry, Marine Corps veteran Bruce DeGraff, and Northborough Police Chief Brian Griffin and Officer Spencer. Community leaders Meetu Gupta and Irvin Victoria King were also recognized. Former Congressman Joe Kennedy III sent a surprise video message applauding the Indian-American community’s contributions to American society.

Subu Kota, founder of The Boston Group, said, "The Indian-American community is an integral part of the fabric of the U.S. society and has always stood for the welfare and progress of this nation.”

Cultural performances, music, cuisine, and community spirit marked the event. Gratitude was extended to artists, volunteers, and the FIA team, including Mitesh, Padamini, and core members like Rakesh Kavsari, Amol, and Santosh Soni, the organizers said in a statement.
