Warner Bros. Discovery and Viacom18, on April 27, 2023, announced a new multi-year agreement that will make JioCinema India's new streaming home of HBO, Max Original, and Warner Bros. content starting next month. As per the agreement which concluded in Mumbai, Viacom 18 will offer HBO and Warner content to its Indian users through linear channels and the JioCinema streaming service.
Expressing delight over the agreement, Clement Schwebig, president, of Warner Bros. Discovery, said, "This new agreement demonstrates our commitment to South Asia as we seek to entertain audiences across more platforms, and further strengthen the scale of our regional business as a whole."
Farzad Palia, head, Viacom18, said: "We believe that Warner Bros. Discovery sets the global standards for premium content and this partnership allows us to create the best and the most comprehensive destination for our users."
India's Reliance had announced a deal with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content to its streaming platform, JioCinema, and compete against OTT giants Netflix and Amazon.
The financial details of the deal have been undisclosed. The shares of Network18 Media and Investments, Reliance's media entity, had risen by as much as 13.5 percent after the announcement of the deal. The JioCinema platform is also the streaming partner for the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year.
