Vivekananda Yoga University USA launches North America’s first PhD programme in yoga

VaYU USA, located in Los Angeles, California, is the first yoga university outside India to focus on graduate yoga education and research.

Vivekananda Yoga University (VaYU) Los Angeles, has introduced a PhD programme in yoga. This will be the first PhD programme in yoga to be offered in North America.

Ten doctoral (PhD) students from the United States, Canada, Qatar, France, and India have already signed up for the fall semester of 2022. Students who are committed to earning the highest educational degree in yoga in the US can now enrol in a distinct MS-PhD programme offered by VaYU. This opens up vibrant possibilities for VaYU in particular and for the expansion of yoga education in general.

N. Sreenath, President of VaYU, said, “This is a path-defining moment as VaYU students will fast-track the journey of taking yoga education and research to impact every corner of the world.”

The PhD programme at VaYU is aimed at cultivating independent researchers to discover fresh avenues in the Theory and Philosophy of Yoga across all faiths and the therapeutic application of Yoga.

Babubhai Gandhi, Chairman of the VaYU Board of Trustees and Founder, said, “All these mark VaYU’s rapid progress in shaping the future of yoga education. The world needs Yoga more than ever today and VaYU is preparing its graduates for that.”

VaYU USA, located in Los Angeles, California, is the first yoga university outside India to focus on graduate yoga education and research. It offers online graduate programs centered on evidence-based yoga and a modern scientific approach to the traditional ancient Indian practice of yoga.
