Utah recognises Diwali as state commemorative period

The Utah Senate passed a bill to allow the sale of fireworks for five days of the Hindu festival.

In a welcome move, the Utah Senate unanimously passed a bill in the second reading to recognize the Indian festival of Lights, Diwali as a state commemorative period.

Sponsored by Senator Lincoln Fillmore, the bill will modify the annual commemorations to include Diwali and allow for the discharge/sale of fireworks during the five days of the festival in the state.
