USIBC inducts new board members

USIBC connects the two largest democracies in the world and serves as the premier voice of industry to create connections between businesses and governments

The US Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) inducted four new executives to its global board of directors including three Indian –origin business leaders.

CEO and MD of Welspun India, Dipali Goenka, senior executive vice president,  of BNY Mellon, Akash Shah, president and CEO of Tellurian Inc, Octávio Simões and vice president of Applied Materials Inc., Dr Prabu Raja, were the new additions to the USIBC board.

Welcoming the new members, president of USIBC, Atul Keshap said, “I am thrilled to announce the addition of four distinguished and accomplished leaders to our diverse Global Board of Directors. Bringing on leaders of this calibre is instrumental to our council’s ability to deliver on an ambitious and wide-ranging advocacy agenda, particularly as India assumes this year’s G20 Presidency.”

Lauding Harvard alumnus Goenka for transforming  the textile business, a traditionally male-dominated industry, into one of women’s empowerment, USIBC said, “Her tenure has seen Welspun’s female workforce grow to 30 per cent up from just 7 per cent a decade ago, and Welspun’s textile business grow to a US $1 billion enterprise globally.”

In his leadership role with BNY Mellon, Yale University alumnus Shah oversees firm-wide Strategy and Global Client Management. He is responsible for delivering BNY Mellon’s strategic growth platform across its businesses and regions and expanding its network of strategic partnerships and investments.

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi alumnus Raja heads the semiconductor products group where he leads multiple business units, global customer accounts, strategy, marketing, and operations. He is recognized in the industry for his leadership in business, technology, customer relationships, and industry partnerships.

Established in 1975 at the behest of the U.S. and Indian Governments, the U.S.-India Business Council represents hundreds of top global companies operating across the United States, India, and the Indo-Pacific.
