The United States intends to restart the process of domestic visa revalidation in certain categories, such as H-1B and L1 visas, on a trial basis later this year, benefiting tens of thousands of foreign IT workers, mainly those from India.

Until 2004, many types of non-immigrant visas, particularly the H-1B, could be renewed or stamped within the United States. Following that, to renew these visas, particularly those on H-1B, foreign tech employees must travel outside of the country, primarily to their home country, to have the H-1B extension stamped on their passport.
