US Justice Department addresses safety concerns of Charlotte's Sikh community

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a total of 1,005 hate crimes related to religion were reported in 2021 in the US, with Sikhs being the most vulnerable group.

Law enforcement officials in the US met with representatives of the Sikh community of North Carolina's Charlotte city on February 26, 2023, at Gurdwara Khalsa Darbar, to discuss ways to combat the rise in unlawful acts of hate against their community.

The event conducted by the US Attorney’s Office was part of the Justice Department’s United Against Hate (UAH) initiative. Attorney Dena J King, members of the US Attorney’s Office Civil Rights Team, and federal and local law enforcement partners participated in the event.
