US buys vacuum gas oil from India after banning Russian imports

India is the third-largest oil importer in the world and has been expanding its purchases of Russian crude oil and exports of oil-related goods to the West in order to increase its profit margins.

India had increased vacuum gas oil (VGO) exports to the United States this year in an unexpected trade flow for the oil commodity, according to exporters and data analytics companies.

This came about as Russian oil imports were banned by the United States and Canada due to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, and the European Union will impose import bans on Russian crude and oil products on Dec. 5 and Feb. 5, respectively.
