World will always be dependent on India for vaccines: Adar Poonawala

Poonawala, who is advocating for advanced vaccine equity, pushed for global harmonization of regulatory standards, which would allow vaccine manufacturers, like him, to make a better real-time impact.

With India currently having 10 billion doses worth of vaccine capacity and the Serum Institute of India (SII) accounting for about 4 billion, SII CEO Adar Poonawala said, “I think the world will always, in some way or another, be dependent on India."

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Poonawala said SII has shipped vaccines from India to the US, Novavax's Nuvaxovid vaccine which was a first.
