The Indian Supreme Court constitution bench consisting of five judges on January 2, 2022, upheld the validity of Centre's November 2016 decision to demonetise ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes.
The bench headed by Justice SA Nazeer and comprising Justices BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian, and BV Nagarathna passed the ruling with a 4-1 majority.
