India’s ties with Georgia, Kazakhstan to get boost with minister’s visit

Lekhi's visit comes at an opportune time as India marks the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties with both countries

Various facets of bilateral cooperation with Georgia will be high on the agenda during the visit of India's junior External Affairs Minister Meenakashi Lekhi beginning Monday. During her two-day stay in Georgia, Lekhi will also interact with Indian students who are an important link between the two countries.

Georgian nationals visit India for various short-term courses under ITEC scholarships which are offered to Georgia, ICCR Scholarships are offered to Georgian nationals to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Indian Universities. Kendriya Hindi Sansthan offers scholarships to study Hindi in India. An ICCR Chair of Contemporary Indian Studies was established at the Tbilisi State University (TSU) for one year (2011-12). There are around 1,500 Indian students studying MBBS in Georgia.
