The United Nations lauded India’s G-20 Presidency for highlighting several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation.
UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp while addressing the joint valedictory session of the 57th Capacity Building Program of the Civil Servants of Bangladesh and Arunachal Pradesh on March 10, 2023 said, “In fact, India’s G-20 Presidency has become SDG-20 Presidency as India is raising a strong voice to close financial gaps.”
In his address, Sharp pointed out the significance the G-20 Presidency being held by emerging economies like Indonesia, India, Brazil and South Africa in a consequent manner to raise the issues of developing countries and to become the voice of the global south.
Recalling the 17 SDGs adopted as a part of the 2030 agenda, Sharp underlined that the world is facing many overlapping crises like fuel, food and fertiliser. However, the poorest communities in the poorest countries, particularly in South Asia bear the brunt of such problems, he emphasized.
“Delivery of the assured and efficient services to the common and poor man is the essence and ethos of any service,” he said.
